Atelier Maker Exhibition

Atelier Maker Exhibition - Finding Creativity in Group Work.
Studio culture makes a long awaited return.
Our exhibition space.
This semester DJCAD's Matthew building hosted 80 Interior, Interaction and Product design students working as an atelier collective. United with the goal of producing an exhibition and catalogue publication showcasing our third year work, we've spent the first semester hard at work in our studios. It's been refreshing to savour and embrace the feeling of returning to the art school after such a long time spent online.
Our Atelier Maker module is based around two aspects of group work...

- Everyone sits within a small group of 5\6 working on creating an exhibition instalment. The brief tasked us "to conceive, design, prototype and craft an interactive physical digital object or space inspired by your groups insights around ‘making’ ". Within this group we also have to collaborate on a long read article surrounding a given prompt.

- We have been split across two studios. One dedicated to organising the exhibition, the other is focussed on creating a catalogue publication. Everyone has a role within a subgroup 'e.g. photography' in each studio which allows everyone to work collectively and in harmony towards our shared goal of making some noise about our work.
Arduino microcontroller
A necessity within our brief was to include the use of an Arduino microcontroller so as to add an interactive element. Teams have used used this to create sound, video, lights and more. The large variety is fantastic to witness when visiting all the teams instalments, all offering different and considered interactions. I for one can't wait to see them all completed.
Everybody's projects are taking their final shape and currently being installed. Teams have pulled motive from research stemmed into 'making', this had resulted in projects ranging  from all things playful to political.
Keep track of our social media accounts to keep up to date with everybody's projects as well as insights into the ethos and personalities behind them.

Our exhibition is open from the 6th of December till the 28th of January 2022. If you're part of the University of Dundee institution we hope to see you visiting!
